San A

My daughter and grand daughter are visiting me. My daughter loves to go to San A in Hamby Town, Chatan, a shopping complex. There's a market and there's prepared food for sale. Here's the lunch we got for ourselves on Saturday and Sunday.

First one has sushi (598 yen), sukiyaki (398 yen) and stir-fried pork liver/chives (298 yen).

Second has sushi again, shrimp tempura (398 yen) and kinpira (158 yen).

Easy, quick things for lunch.

Canned Sardines

Having read Kat of Our Adventures in Japan making sardines from canned stuff she brought back from Hawaii and discovering a recipe from My Kitchen, decided to give a try.

Using a Japanese brand, it was OK. May add something more next time then just onions and a chili pepper as the recipe said, like some chopped garlic and capers. Ate it this time with rice, but this might even pretty good over pasta.

Usually I just cook canned sardines from the U.S. or Canada as my mother did for my family as we were growing up - slowly frying with sliced onion, shoyu, sugar and some red wine vinegar. Never had the tomato sauce type even though available in the U.S. Here is my usual sardines and onions as we called it;
