Sun Toguchi

I took a retiring Foreman of mine to lunch today along with some workers of his Branch plus other Branch Foremen. Went to this place very close to our office - Sun Toguchi, located on Toguchi Beach in Yomitan. In fact the beach continues right past my office window a way down! The place is a city-owned restaurant (probably a concession) on the beach. Here's what the folks had:

Me being the Miso Shiru (みそ汁) freak I am, had it here - ¥500. Just lots of veggies in miso soup with a few pieces of pork and luncheon meat with an egg on top. Love miso shiru! (2 orders)

Okinawan Soba (沖縄そば) - ¥450, soba with pork slices, kamaboko, negi and beni shoga. (3 orders)

Soki Soba (ソーキそば) - ¥600, soba with soki nitsuke ribs, kamaboko, negi and beni shoga. (1 order)

Beef Oyster Sauce (牛肉カキ油炒め) - ¥750, beef slices in an oyster sauce gravy with tofu. Underneath are blanched cabbage greens, there's some peeking out to the right. I've had this dish before - it's ono! (3 orders).

Inexpensive lunch for all - ¥5,200

A formation right outside the restaurant.

And another little one further down.

amazing, no abandoned shopping carts or rubber tires in the low tide. All the soup dishes look ono.

Was a beautiful day during lunch, but the afternoon turn very cloudy. The sandy beach continues for a mile to the right and ends by my office. I'll take a picture from "my" end of the beach. And there's no development between there and my office. Only farms with a lot of Okinawan tombs that dot the landscape.

ronw - There's no "high water" or "vegetation" line like in state in in Hawaii, or in this case prefecture owned land. Here the property owners own out there for quite a distance. I really don't know. Beaches are privately owned or city/town/village owned. A lot of beaches charge for going or using them. Only the governmanet owned beaches are free. So the folks who own the beaches really take care of them. Only in the myriad of back roads do you find all the discarded stuff you mentioned.

Nate, the famous "Diner E", the "Kalihi Eats Tour conductor" on my blog, has his family roots in Yomitan.

In fact, he's an active volunteer with the annual Okinawan Festival at Kapiolani Park, working with the Yomitan group.

That Soki Soba looks especially interesting. Ever since you "hooked me up" with that awesome Gyudon recipe, I've been hooked on Beni Shoga. Such a great condiment with meaty, savory dishes.

All those dishes look oishii!

pomai - Yomitan is a nice place!

Was at the last Okinawan Festival last year when on leave. Will probably be there again this year. I visit home to especially be at my granddaughter's birthday at that time.

I've linked the recipe in the post for soki nitsuke. Can go on any soup noodles you want, replacing the char siu pieces. Delicious! With rice tastes ono too!
