Just watched the Washington, DC July 4th program...
...the fireworks weren't as spectacular as Macy's but the perfomers were excellent. Aretha is something else! Loved the Sesame Street folks, but where was Kermit and Miss Piggy?

As I work for PBS, The Jim Henson Company maintains tight control of where their Muppets appear.
Sesame Street Muppets are licensed for use to Sesame Workshop (formerly CTW - Children's Television Workshop). Muppets created for Sesame Street STAY there. That's why you rarely (if ever) see them in a Muppet Movie -- except maybe Big Bird or Oscar the Grouch.
In the early days of Sesame Street, Kermit was part of the regular Muppet cast (mostly as the befuddled reporter or just singing 'Being Green'), but by the time The Muppet Show debuted in syndication in the late 70s, his character developed a bit more and the decision was made by Henson to pull him from the show.
These days, whenever Kermit does make an appearance on Sesame Street (usually in an old clip), Sesame Workshop has to run an acknowledgment in their end credits that he is "property of The Jim Henson Company."
Miss Piggy, on the other hand (no pun intended), was created specifically for The Muppet Show as the femme fatale to her Kermie...
BTW, the reason you never see an old Muppet for sale on eBay or at any online auction is that the Henson Creature Shops (in L.A. & the UK) recycle or rehab every Muppet they produce -- that includes the Sesame Muppets used in the international versions of the show.
There's several Sesame Muppets that are MIA from the Creature Shop -- a Cookie Monster, a camel and several other character Muppets created for a Kuwaiti version of the kids show. They were taken by Saddam's Republican Guard when Iraq invaded Kuwait.
